Hi, I am Punkin and you are my Angel! One year ago I was six weeks old and one pound, my esophagus had shut down so no food would go into my stomach. I was so tiny and frail I had almost no chance of survival but Brigid’s Crossing took a chance on me.
After some discussion, the kind veterinarians at Animal Speciality Hospital where Gulfshore Animal Hospital had referred me, were willing to give it a try. I had surgery. They put a feeding tube in my abdomen. It was very risky but I pulled through. Two days later the news was not nearly as encouraging. I was on intravenous fluids and glucose because my blood sugar levels were dropping. I lost consciousness and the end was near.
When the veterinarian called our founder to tell her the bad news she asked if it was possible for someone at the clinic to hold me while I passed, so I could feel the warmth, caring and love of a human being. Both of them were crying and the Doctor quickly agreed (even back then, scrawny and fragile, I was irresistible). Connie Jedrick, the Doctor’s assistant instantly stepped up and offered to hold me. She nurtured me with her empathy and compassion. Everyone thought I would be gone in a short time, but after two hours I was still fighting and much to the surprise and delight of everyone I turned around.
When Dr. Ayoob called to tell us she had pulled through, we were ecstatic and over the phone we could hear the cheering and joy at the Clinic. What an amazing gift. The Doctor said it wasn’t the sweetness of sugar I needed but the sweetness of a human’s love.
I made it. I completely recovered. I am alive and well and living with Connie, who adopted me. What a joyous day.
They say my story is one of hope and magic which makes it purrfect to share for the Holiday Season.
Punkin today
My story really explains what they do at Brigid’s Crossing. They are a sanctuary of last resort that gives the un-adoptable kitties a chance. They believe we all deserve to live and have a forever home of our own. Your support has made their vision possible.
We want to express our heartfelt thanks and deep gratitude to you for giving us life! We wish you the best of the Holiday Season and hope all your wishes come true in the New Year.
Your support made my recovery possible. We have so many more kitties who need a miracle too. Will you consider helping us with a donation in this season of giving.
Much Love and Light,
Punkin and Everyone Two Legged and Four Legged at Brigid’s Crossing
